A couple of years ago my sister and I started a fashion and entertainment PR company The B Firm Public Relations. We were given the amazing opportunity to host a Meet and Greet for Mimi G: Fashion Blogger and Seamstress Extraordinaire. Mimi G is an uplifting “started from the bottom now we’re here” kind of woman!
MimiG pretty much makes everything she wears but also shows you how to rock store bought pieces as well! So, it was time to pull out my sewing machine! I spent hours on Pinterest pinning dresses of hers and other that I knew I wanted to make. Many of my dresses I make will come from this board!
I wanted to make a dress she has made to show homage to her wonderful sewing, blogging and pinning skills. It was a little cool so I thought it would be nice to have something with long sleeves and comfy fabric. I saw this wrap Vogue Pattern V8825 dress, and knew it was the one!
Another dress making/buying rule: Never judge a dress by its cover!
When I showed my friends a picture of this pattern cover, they were less than amused! The dress had no life or pzazz but I learned from a very early age, it’s not the FASHION, it’s the FIT! So I tried it and LOVED it.
I chose a navy knit that was perfect for the weather. The dress was fairly easy to make. This was my first time making sleeves so that was interesting! lol. This is a faux wrap dress which helps my big hips from separating the dress. Don’t need a peep show! My hips are so much larger than my waist when I wear wrap dresses that fit my waist, it does not always close properly and that just down right annoys me!
Check out the pics below.
The event was a success, and everyone like my dress! Mimi G was amazing. She went from homeless to running a blog with millions of fans! She inspired everyone attending to forget what past may have been ailing them and create their own future. That is exactly what she did so it is always good to be living proof of overcoming a major setback in life and not letting your past define you. Has there been events in your past that taunt you and your possibilities for you future? Take it from me, I have been to the depths of hell and back in my short years on this earth. I have felt broken and lost trust in people. But I realized something very key to my new lease on life. Being happy is a decision. It is not an outcome of how someone else makes you feel. It is something you have to find internally and demand no one take it away. Ever seen a baby hold on to a pacifier or toy for dear life with that master grip? Treat happiness like it is something you can’t ever let go.
Is their something holding you back? Maybe it’s time to let it go. I would love to hear your thoughts on this subject.
